Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,
Lots of great dancing this weekend and all month.
Before Gator Growl, start your Friday night with Kay Picart's Ballroom Waltz class for all levels, beginner, intemediate and advanced. Kay keeps these classes small enough so you get personal attention. Kay will be doing three of these classes this month, so take advantage. After this class, we will be playing music so you can practice.
UF Tango and UF Swing Clubs are not meeting Friday, since it is Gator Growl.
Our first Saturday night of the month West Coast Swing Dance is this weekend. I will be guest DJing in place of Josh. We will have a lot of fun and I hope you will come out. This will still be a West Coast Swing playlist, not my usual eclectic mix of all types of swing, but if you are a Lindy or East Coast Swing dancer, you will still be able to dance all night. You can do any type of swing, hustle, night club two step or any dance you want if you feel like it. There will be a simple, useful lesson starting at exactly 7:30. The lesson will be based on a workshop I went to at the International Hustle and Salsa Conference.

Sunday is Tango Pavadita's afternoon practice. This is their last one of the year, so get out there. Great for all levels.
Sunday there is a Contra at 4 at the Boltin Center.
Get ready for next week's Gainesville Lindy Exchange (GLX, www.lewps.com/glx/) by coming out Sunday night to 308 West for Swing 101 at 6. You can come even if you missed the first class. At 7 we have Swing 102. At 8:30 we have Hustle!. One price for the whole night. Half off, only $5 if you attend the Saturday night dance party.
Richard has East Coast Swing on Tuesdays and Essie has West Coast Swing on Wednesdays.
Judi is not doing West Coast Swing on Thursdays for the time being. Let me know if people want to dance on Thursday night and if enough do, I can open up the studio.
Starting next Thursday is Tampa Bay Classic's (TBC) West Coast Swing weekend. It may be possible to do both GLX and TBC. www.TampaBayClassic.com

Article: Gainesville Dancers on Ira Weisburd's Workshop
Ira Weisburd's Israeli Dance Workshop this week at B'nai Israel was a big success, attended by over 40 people, which is great for Gainesville, with a small contigent coming from Jacksonville on a Monday night even.
Kol Simcha (KS), Gainesville International Folk Dancers (GFID), Veronica Lane and company from Jacksonville and my B'nai Israel group, along with some independents were the participants.
Jack Seltzer of GIFD wrote: "On Halloween day, Andy Weitzen organized a 3 hour workshop with Ira Weisburd, a fine choreographer from south Florida. Just a fine Israeli - novelty dance workshop which moved along all evening....Ira went through 13 dances in the 3 hours. An Israeli Hasspico Mozart(boy, Israeli doing slight Greek to Mozart music...far out), a cha cha espana(a turning 90 deg. Kind of novelty dance which I'd like to do tomorrow night....yes, we dance tomorrow night at the Fellowship!) , and a gypsy styled dance called Hatzoani and a dance called Yeminite Feet, etc. Anyway, just an upbeat fun and extremely quick 3 hour night of dancing non-stop."
Tony Arroyo of Kol Simcha wrote: "The workshop last night was a huge success for al the KS people that attended. Ira is a very good teacher and a lot of his stuff is really nice. Thank you for your hard work! ... It allowed me to invite a broader spectrum and 3-4 of those non-dancers did show up and enjoyed it."
Veronica Lane from Jacksonville wrote: "Charlie, Linda Holfinger , Lyle and I just returned from Ira's workshop in Gainesville. What a wonderful teacher he is! So nice to see my int'l dance friends there, too."

We have beginners Israeli dancing on Monday nights from 7 to 8 pm and intermediate from 8 to 9 pm. Everyone is welcome. $5 per family. Ages 22 and under free. At B'nai Israel, 3830 NW 16 Blvd, on the right side in the back.

I am a 15-year-old girl who has never been in trouble, but my mom treats me like a criminal. She make me go to church every Sunday. She makes me go to Catholic school, and I have to wear an ugly uniform. She will not help with my homework. She says, "I already did 10th grade." I can not wear halter tops, short shorts, a bikini or much makeup. If I tell her it is the style, she say, "Modesty is always in style."
When I go out with my friends, she wants to know where I am going, who I will be with, what we will be doing, when we will be back and their phone numbers. If I have a date with a new boy, she makes him come into the house and tell her what school he goes to. Then she makes him show her his driver's license and car regitsration.
I can't keep my computer in my room. I have to set the table even if we don't have company and sit down and have dinner with her every night.
If I can't afford something, she tells me to save up or budget better. She won't let me drive until I can pay for my own insurance. It's not like my mom's poor. We go to Hawaii and Lake Tahoe, and we have been to Europe and on crusises. But she will not even pay for cable TV. She says it is an idiot box and I should read a book instead.
She also makes me do my own laundry and keep my bathroom clean.
She makes me visit Dad every week, and if I complain about anything, she says, "You can always choose to live with your dad."
She told me as long as I live under her roof, I have to abide by her rules even if I am older than 18. And I have to go to college, and if I do not, I will have to get a job and support myself.
