Hello and Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,
Busy weekend of dancing coming up for Halloween.
Friday night is Josh's Angels and Devils Autism Fundraiser Dance and Halloween Costume Party with Patti Jobst. Patti will teach a West Coast Swing lesson from 7:30 to 8:30. This is a benefit and you can bring new dancers. I will be giving a lesson on how to dance with a partner at the same time for beginners.
Swing and Sway also meets Friday night.
Saturday night Tango Pavadita holds their milonga.
Sunday afternoon is Imperial Dance Studio's 2011 Showcase.
Lindy Swing Dancing 101 starts this Sunday night from 6 to 7 pm. We have a pretty good sign up so far. You can still register at Santa Fe College.

Lindy Swing and Hustle! for people with some dance experience is immediately afterwards, 7 to 8:30 swing and 8:30 to 9:30 hustle. Anyone coming to the class at 7 is welcome to come early to the beginners class at 6 for no charge.
Monday night we have a special event with internationally renowned Ira Weisburd leading Israeli folk dancing. Everyone can attend this fun evening. You do not need to be an Israeli dancer. See below for a review from Ira's recent Boston workshop, "He broke dances down so beginners could follow easily," and "Ira's success story around the world with line dancers as well as IFD is legendary." We have only done something like this about once every two years, so make sure you catch this one. Only $10, teenagers and younger free. At B'nai Israel, October 31 from 7 to 10 pm.

Ira Weisburd comes to Gainesville on Monday October 31 to lead an Israeli folk dance workshop. Below are a couple of posts about how much people enjoyed Ira's workshop in Boston.

Three weeks after Ira's workshop North of Boston, the energy level is still high. Our groups have added eight new dancers who attended his workshop. We had him teach mostly his circle dances that night since his Sonata was already popular with the groups. His dances were so popular we have been asked to perform two of them next month at a Fundraising event.
Ira taught at all levels. He broke dances down so beginners could follow easily. He also called an advanced dance that many could follow without a teach. We were reminded that Ira's reach extends across the dance world: His Israeli workshop also attracted International and Line dancers. Since our group is one of the "friendly, welcoming" types (as compared to the hard-core ones discussed recently), Ira's workshop was an opportunity for meeting fellow dancers. Many of the new dancers had previously done only international or line dances and are now hooked on Israeli dancing.
Ira's dedication and commitment were clearly shown the day of our workshop when an extremely unusual rainstorm had flooded many roads. Even though it took three times the normal travel time, he never even considered cancelling either workshop he had booked for that day. Despite the horrible driving conditions, most of the pre-registered dancers showed up at both events. In fact, our attendence at his Israeli workshop far exceeded the number of local dancers and almost the capacity of the room.
If Ira is ever touring your area I would definitely encourage your group to book an event.
